The Importance of a Connected Workplace

At NRPR Group, we’re very lucky to have a tight-knit team that’s always got each other’s backs. We’re also lucky to have a flexible work environment that allows us to work remotely on Fridays and on special occasions when needed. These factors (and more) make it necessary to have an efficient and connected workplace, whether that’s in the office or on the go.

Today on the blog, we’re sharing some of our favorite tips for staying on top of communications with your team, and why it’s important to always stay connected!

1. Communication is KEY! Whether you’re a Fortune 500 company or a startup with five employees, great, clear lines of communication are vital for success. And how can you communicate well is your team is disjointed? Even if you’re in the office and able to communicate something verbally, our best practice is to always reply via email confirming what was discussed, so all involved parties are aware. We’re busy PR pros after all, and we can’t all always be in the office when client duties call! Close the email loop when something is done, acknowledge tasks, and share updates with your team as needed. It may seem like a big influx of emails, but you’ll be more in the loop than ever!

2. Your team is here to help. Having a well-connected team is great for staying on top of your tasks and delivering for clients, but it’s also make or break in times of emergencies. Unfortunately things happen and there will be times when your co-workers won’t be able to be at work. When this happens, there’s no time to waste. However, a connected team will know exactly where the pieces of the puzzle lay and how to put them together without missing a beat. We’re one team working toward one goal, and we’re always here to help a co-worker in need.

3. Simply put, it makes life easier. Who doesn’t want that? Of course nothing beats being in the office with your team, or being able to easily communicate via your desktop email, but we all know that’s not always the case. Tools like email apps on our cell phones, Slack and Dialpad for quick and streamlined communication, WhatsApp for when our team is international, and SO many more… we’re confident our team can stay in the loop on all initiatives no matter where we are.

These are just a few of the many reasons it’s important to keep connected with your team. When comm lines are broken and team members are left out of the loop, you’ll waste vital time trying to bring everyone up to speed instead of working toward your goals for your clients and customers. Putting these best practices in place, and maybe even a few of your own, will help ensure your team is riding the same wavelength day in and day out.

Speaking of which, we want to hear from you! How do you and your colleagues stay connected when you’re outside the office?  Let us know in the comments below and stay up-to-date with the latest and greatest news from NRPR Group by signing up for our bi-monthly newsletter, HUSTLE WITH A CONSCIENCE!

Three Things I Wish I Had Known in My 20’s: Nicole Rodrigues

This article originally appeared on Neon Notebook.

Nicole Rodrigues has been in the PR and social media industry for for 14+ years and now has her own firm, NRPR Group, in Beverly Hills.  She helps big consumer, entertainment and sports brands really shape their image by using great strategy and very “human” tactics.

What sets her apart from other professionals is her path to becoming a CEO: Early in her career, Nicole spent 2+ years as a cheerleader for the Oakland Raiders, while working internally on the PR team. She’s also a mother, and has had to balance being a mom and having a career since she graduated from college. She continues to mentor everyone on her teams with great wisdom she learned from her time working with The Raiders as well as big companies such as Sony Playstation, Hulu, Dolby and YouTube.

1) Hard work really does pay off. In my 20’s, I used to get upset a lot when I’d see my friends out partying while I was working. I knew I wanted to be successful but, was it ever going to “really happen?” The answer was yes. The long hours and extra projects put me ahead of the game. I was learning how to be better in my profession and am now able to enjoy myself more in my 30s because I’m not still trying to climb “the ladder.” Now I’m just working hard to build my own business. There are still parties and outings that I skip now, but I don’t mind at all. I know in the end it will always be worth it.

2) Nice girls don’t finish last. People used to tell me that I’d be taken advantage of in the professional world because of my niceness. The way I see it, no matter what, there will always be people who try to take advantage of you. That’s just life. What I did learn is that my “niceness” helped me truly build a strong network of people I could trust because they knew I was trustworthy. People like doing business with people they like. Period. Being nice has gotten me awesome clients, equally nice employees and a great circle of friends. And, just because I’m nice doesn’t mean I’m a pushover. I definitely have a tough side, as every woman should.

3) Always save for a rainy day. Jobs are not guaranteed forever. It’s also not guaranteed you’ll like a certain job and want to stay forever. What I learned over the years is that so many people will stay at jobs they hate just because they need to pay their bills. That leads to a lack of passion and motivation. I learned the hard way that I needed to save. When I finally made it a habit, there was never a job that had a hold on me because I “had” to be there. In fact, I left two positions because I was very unhappy and knew I didn’t see myself there in the future. When I knew I had money in the bank, I had confidence that I’d be OK because I had great skills to help me land a new position. Yes, I walked away from those positions and landed great new jobs in a heartbeat! I walked away from dead end jobs and terrible management that made me miserable. It’s a powerful thing to “own your future” and not have a job dictate it. SAVE. It will always give you leverage so you ensure you’re working where you’re happy.

How You Can Work Social Media Personally And Professionally To Enhance Your Digital Reputation

This article originally appeared on Forbes

Your reputation follows you everywhere. From personal to professional, people will remember you: Are you kind? A hard worker? Do you complain often? Do you go above and beyond?

However, in the age of social media, the way you’re perceived doesn’t end here. For this reason, it’s more important than ever to understand how you’re portraying yourself online and work to monitor your digital reputation just as diligently as you would your physical one.

Having worked in PR and strategic positioning for 17-plus years, I’ve gathered many tips on reputation management. Below you’ll find five areas to keep in mind when evaluating your digital persona, as well as how you can work your social channels for personal and professional benefit.

1. Not all social channels are created equal.

My Facebook, for example, has a lot more of my real-life friends and family following me; my Twitter, rather, is more industry experts and media. I must keep these different audiences in mind when deciding what I want to post, and you should too. One way I keep it balanced is knowing each channel and understanding its purpose, which helps me make smart decisions on sharing.

While I keep my Twitter more professional, I love sharing my love of football by following my teams and posting thoughts on the game, even though the majority of my followers are professionals who know me through my company.

However, this is a great way to share more about myself beyond what goes on at work. We all have interests outside of our jobs, and sharing something I’m passionate about shows my personality while still being professional (you’ll never find me angry Tweeting about a bad call or smack talking another team because that’s not me). I like to spread positivity, so although it’s not work related, my followers are learning about me.

On Facebook, my friends, family and clients follow me. I’ll post once or twice a week, keeping the majority of posts focused on my business. With Snapchat and Instagram, however, you’ll see more of me in my real element: at home, at work, with my daughter, walking my dog … the possibilities are endless. These two platforms show more of a balance of my life because I know the majority of my strictly professional audience isn’t relying on Snapchat or Instagram for PR-related content.

2. Keep it classy: Stay away from certain topics.

Regardless of who’s following you, stay professional across the board (especially if you’re an entrepreneur or executive with a large industry voice) by staying away from a few big topics.

Major political opinions: This is just to be safe because you don't want to start off by retaining enemies. Unfortunately, that's what happens with politics. While you may have passionate views, responsible debates can easily be hijacked by someone looking to argue. Don’t let yourself get carried down.

Too many thoughts on religion: Unless your business is of a religious background, you want to be as agnostic as possible. You want people to focus on the awesome things you’re doing in your career and with your business.

Anything else that will spark an argument: People love to argue behind the safety of a screen so before you tempt someone, consider if engaging with them is worth your time.

Don’t forget: Everything you post online lives forever. Even if you delete it, it never truly goes away. Think twice before you post.

3. Be smart about who’s in your circle.

Be smart about who you bring into your social community. To attract greatness, you’ll often have to go out and find it yourself. Look at hashtags and find conversations and content from similar people. Remember, just as you’re seeking them, they are also seeking you. If you have a community of people who don’t align with your vision, it’ll lessen your chances of connecting with other awesome professionals.

A lot of work goes into building a following, and not much goes into depleting it. Attract good people and be a great resource. Your online community stays with you forever and you never know when an opportunity may arise from it.

4. You don’t have to put everything on social media.

As a business owner, I want people to take me seriously. If all I'm doing is posting mommy pictures or boyfriend/girlfriend pictures, people won't look at me as a serious businesswoman.

While I choose to keep certain things close to me, I’m not saying you have to avoid all things personal. If you love sharing family pictures or something with a significant other, that is completely okay as long as it works for your personal brand (and it’s not the only thing you post). The key is moderation.

5. You can find a great mix.

It is possible to balance being personal and professional online. You know I love football and I’m a PR pro, so I’ll often combine the two for the benefit of my followers. The recent publicity scandals in the NFL, for example, provide a great opportunity for me to share my expertise on the issues at hand in a thoughtful way, all while combining two things I love.

Any business owner who has been in their industry for years should have opinions on things and should educate people. It would be doing your audience a disservice by not sharing those opinions. If you feel passionate about an issue, write your own thought leadership article, publish it and share on social media. People are following you for your expertise, so they're going to listen to you.

In the end, it’s possible to maintain a great personal and professional persona online, and these tips are a great place to start. If all else fails, always use your best judgment. Be smart, be safe, be yourself and have fun, but also be mindful, respectful and know that your digital reputation will stick with you forever.

Tips for Staying Organized, Focused and Goal-Oriented in 2018

HAPPY NEW YEAR! We hope your holidays were filled with love, cheer, and celebration of everything good this past year. As we kick off 2018, we want to make sure we do it right, which is why we’re sharing our top tips for staying organized, focused and goal-oriented this new year. There’s no better time to start than now, right?!

Get ORGANIZED! Our goals are to stay clear, focused, and on-task this new year, and one of the best places to start is getting (and staying) organized. Get a planner, use your calendar, and make it a goal to zero out your inbox every day. Visualize what you day looks like in the morning, and have a clear to do list laid out before signing off for the day.

Outline your GOALS: Whether it’s three big things each day, or a high-level view of what you want to accomplish each week, physically writing down your goals will make them REAL and easier to chase. Be reasonable and give yourself ample time to complete them, but be sure to challenge yourself and push your limits. This goal-oriented mindset will help you focus on what’s important and keep you from getting side-tracked by unnecessary items.

FOCUS on what MATTERS: This goes for just about everything in life, from your career to your personal endeavors and everything in between. Try not to sweat the small stuff; if you feel yourself getting overwhelmed, breath, get organized, and just dive in. Worrying is nothing but a waste of time and the best course of action is to just get to it! Again, it is important to make sure you’re taking personal time for yourself as well, because that matters too! Listen to your body, take care of yourself, and incorporate hobbies into your life to keep things interesting. Nothing is worse than a burnt out professional.

Have FUN with it! We couldn’t end this blog post without a little bit of fun… that’s just who we are! When the going gets tough or you find yourself in need of some extra motivation, remember WHY you’re doing this in the first place. Get back to your roots, uncover what it is you really love about what you do, and you’ll find that the spark, motivation and encouragement will come from within.

This list could go on forever, but now we want to hear from you! How are you staying organized, focused and goal-oriented this new year? The Importance of Company Bonding

With any career path you choose to follow, one thing is a given no matter what it is you do: you spend a LOT of time with your co-workers. Oftentimes you’re spending more of your day with your colleagues than your friends, roommates, family, or significant others, or maybe all of them combined… it’s true!

While the face time is great for collaborating, getting work done, and staying on the same page with your initiatives, there’s a much deeper level that must come when you spend this much time with a group of people. This is why today, we’re diving into the importance of company bonding, and sharing some tips for how you can make it a focus at your workplace!

1. It helps you get to know one another outside of just what you do at the office: Socializing and getting to know one another at work is a great way to form deeper bonds with your co-workers. We all have lives outside of our jobs, and more often than not you’ll find that you actually have a lot more in common with your co-workers than you think! When you’re able to “humanize” your colleagues and get to know each other better, it actually helps boost your ability to work as a team and get more done together.

2. No one’s got time for drama: Disagreements, disputes, and different points of view are just part of life, and that’s no different for your job or the people you work with (side note: no matter WHAT it is, ALWAYS remember to go about sharing your thoughts and opinions with respect and an open mind. Always!). However, it’s important to be able to openly share your ideas without fear of rejection or sparking drama, and having a strong bond with your team minimizes that risk tenfold. Knowing your co-workers on a deeper level will help remind you that we’re all just human, we all make mistakes, and we’re all here for one common goal. Seeing eye to eye on that level will prevent future drama and create a happier workplace for all.

3. You get to enjoy your victories as a TEAM: At NRPR Group, we are a team. No one succeeds on their own, and we all learn and get better together. With that said, you better believe that we are one encouraging, motivating bunch when it comes to cheering each other on, and it’s because we’ve all taken the time to get to know one another and strengthen our bonds outside of the office. A personal or team victory means that, in one way or another, we’re all taking one more step toward being the best PR pros we can be, and there’s nothing better than getting to celebrate that with your FRIENDS, who are also your co-workers.

4. It’s easy to implement! The BEST part about putting a focus on company bonding is that it couldn’t be easier to implement. Here at NRPR Group, we always take time to celebrate birthdays as a team, even if that means a quick cake + card session in our kitchen. We make the most of our holidays, having potlucks, costume contests, and more at our office. Every summer we have a “ditch day” where we call off work and spend the whole day as a team, at the golf course, grabbing some food, or whatever the day may hold! We follow that up with a fun day at Disney, where it’s NO work talk allowed and simply a day to be kids again. Now… maybe you can’t pick up and head off to the most magical place on earth, but you can definitely make time for a monthly happy hour, featuring one team member’s “get to know you” profile in a team meeting, or whatever resonates with your bunch!

Our awesome team here really knows how to get the job done, but we also genuinely enjoy each other’s company and often hang out outside of work, text on the weekends, and care about each other’s lives! This close bond comes from investment in each other’s personal and professional growth, which contributes back to an amazing company culture.

There are infinite reasons why company bonding is important, but we want to hear from you! How do you and your team members strengthen your bonds? What type of impact do you see it making on your work flow? We’re Wrapping 2017 With a Bow and Celebrating Our Most Successful Year Yet

It’s a celebration here at NRPR Group! Not only for the holidays (which we just celebrated in style at Villa Blanca Beverly Hills), but also because we have SO much amazing news to share with you.

It’s hard to believe that 2017 is nearly over, but with the new year approaching, we’re glowing with joy over all that we have to celebrate. First off, just in these past couple months, we’ve welcomed SO many amazing clients into our family, including:

  • Dialpad: Dialpad offers secure, enterprise cloud phone systems, business VoIP, toll free numbers, cloud PBX and integrations with G Suite & Office 365.
  • Olga Lorencin Skin Care: Olga Lorencin Skin Care is a line of hero products, each one formulated to deliver the most effective combination of cosmeceutical ingredients and proven active naturals. The brand is loved by countless celebrities and influencers, including Halle Berry, Emma Stone, Tyra Banks, Will Ferrell, Reese Witherspoon and more.
  • HSG Campaigns: HSG Campaigns is a one-stop political consulting firm committed to getting Democratic candidates elected by strategically blending traditional campaign tactics with modern, effective solutions and outside of the box thinking.

  • Eric Hogensen: Eric Hogensen is a Democratic political consultant with 20+ years of professional experience. He provides a proven track record of successful campaigns with like-minded candidates, while taking bigger leaps to open the once closed system of campaign politics, so everyday people can get involved.

This amazing quarter for new client growth, combined with a strong 2017, brings NRPR’s total new client wins to more than 20 accounts and projects closed this year!

We couldn’t do it without our incredible Founder and CEO, Nicole Rodrigues, who shared her thoughts and feelings on NRPR’s booming success with the press:

“To end 2017 on such a strong note by welcoming so many amazing new clients to our roster is an incredible feeling. We’re very fortunate to experience such healthy growth as an agency, but it’s also a reminder that we’re doing things the right way, and people are taking notice. When done correctly, PR pros know that working in public relations isn’t easy. I’m proud of this team and our hard work, and we’re truly honored to get to work with the strong, innovative leaders behind each of these companies.”

However, the party doesn’t stop here! We’re also celebrating three major award wins heading into the new year. First, Nicole won GOLD for Public or Media Relations Professional of the Year in Bulldog Reporter’s Stars of PR 2017 Awards. This is NRPR’s THIRD STRAIGHT GOLD award win with Stars of PR (we won New Agency of the Year in 2015 and Small Agency of the Year in 2016)!

Nicole also took home Silver at this year’s Stevie Awards for Women in Business for Woman of the Year – Advertising, Marketing & Public Relations. This is her second time taking home a Stevie Award; last year Team NRPR took home Silver for Video of the Year for NRPR Group’s educational video series, PRactical Guide to Publicity.

Finally, our agency was hand-selected for the 2017 Beverly Hills Small Business Excellence Awards for Public Relations. This is another back-to-back award win, as NRPR took home the same top honor in 2016.

It’s definitely been a busy year here at NRPR Group, but we wouldn’t change a thing because all of our hard work has paid off and we’re thrilled to get to share it with you. And with that, we can’t leave without sending a MASSIVE THANK YOU to ALL of our amazing clients, media friends, family, friends, and everyone who has supported us. We would not be here if it weren’t for all of you.

From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU! Now… we’re off to celebrate! Be sure to stay up-to-date with our latest and greatest news by signing up for our bi-monthly newsletter, HUSTLE WITH A CONSCIENCE, and have a very happy and safe holiday season.

Tell us one of your proudest moments on the job:
I’ve only been at NRPR Group for a couple months, but I was really excited to get my first hit for our client, Heal, on one of their big announcements last month. What We’re Thankful For at NRPR This Thanksgiving

Is there anyone else who can’t believe it’s already Thanksgiving Eve? We can’t. It seems like just yesterday we were welcoming in the new year, celebrating our three year anniversary, having some summer fun in the sun at Disney, and even dressing up for Halloween in the office (that was already a month ago?!).

However, as we wrap up this short work week and prepare for some well earned time with family and friends (and food), the team at NRPR Group wanted to take some time to reflect on what we’re thankful for this holiday season.

I’m thankful that hard work and a focus on good people, both on the client and internal team side, has helped me build the perfect work atmosphere and family.
-Nicole Rodrigues, Founder & CEO

I'm thankful to our amazing clients, who show the world every day how innovation and drive can change the world. I'm also thankful for our team, of course! #GoNRPR!
-Jen Rogers, Tech PR & Marcomm Account Director

I'm thankful for work from home Fridays AND the atmosphere of ambition and purpose that our clients (and our internal team) create everyday.
-Alex Anderson, Marketing Account Executive

I'm thankful for the opportunity to learn and grow professionally each day with NRPR Group and work with such an amazing team.
-Delia Mendoza, Assistant Account Executive

I’m thankful for the fun, supportive workplace we have. I know that no matter what is going on in our crazy, busy schedules, there’s not been a single day I haven’t laughed so hard it hurts, had a great chat with a co-worker, or just took a second to take in our amazing views and appreciate our team. Oh, and coffee. Very grateful for coffee.
-Cadie Carroll, Marketing & Business Development Manager

I'm thankful, humbled, and honored to be able to tell stories for our extremely innovative clients alongside a super star team that I learn from everyday.
-Alex Everakes, Assistant Account Executive

I'm thankful for the SUPPORT, LOVE, and INSPIRATION we receive each day because without it, we would not be the EFFICIENT team that we are.
-Anita Yardemian, Account Executive

I’m thankful for the opportunity to work with a diverse client base and with an amazing team at NRPR!
-Christopher Amnott, Account Coordinator

Our lists truly could go on and on. When you have an amazing team, a fun place to work, an incredible coach and mentor leading the way, the best clients in the game, and an industrial sized coffee maker, how could we not be thankful beyond measure?

We wish you a safe and very happy Thanksgiving with your family and friends, and would like to say thank you once more for always supporting NRPR Group. We couldn’t do what we do without YOU!

What are you thankful for this holiday season? Let us know in the comments below and stay up-to-date with the latest and greatest news from NRPR Group by signing up for our bi-monthly newsletter, HUSTLE WITH A CONSCIENCE!
