How the heck did the holidays sneak up so quickly?! It seems like just yesterday we were enjoying the long summer days and warmer weather (though, let’s be honest, not too much warmer, since the lowest we go in Los Angeles is typically a rare mid-40’s). In any case, we can hardly contain our excitement, as this time of year brings with it a special, warm-fuzzy feeling that only the holidays can spark. It’s a time to reminisce over the best lessons of the past year, look forward toward what’s to come, count up our blessings and celebrate it all amongst our family, friends and loved ones.

As we aim to end this year on our highest note yet, we wanted to share a few tips our team follows over the holidays to make sure we don’t miss a beat while enjoying some much-needed down time:

1. Keep the content coming. It’s important to make sure you and your brand are still active on social media and/or any other digital marketing fronts (i.e. your blog, newsletter, website, etc.) over the holidays. With your fans and followers most likely on vacation (or even with just a little bit more down time to peruse), this is a prime time for brand engagement and growth. To make your life easier, plan your posts a few weeks in advance, and have all images and copy ready to go. That way, you won’t have to worry about creating content on the fly, or interrupting your family dinner to push through a post. Same goes for your company blog or newsletter — if you post every week, plan ahead and have both ready to go. Maintaining your online presence and posting cadence is important to ensure your current fans are happy and new ones keep coming.

2. Follow up. The holidays are a great time to follow up with media. While they may be taking some time off, they’re most likely using a bit of that time to get organized and caught up themselves. Send a friendly follow up note (wishing them a happy holiday season won’t hurt!) and be mindful that they might not be on email right away.

3. Get organized. If you’ve been needing to clean out your email inbox, now’s the time to do it. Carve out a few hours, buckle down, pour yourself a warm mug of eggnog and get it done! An empty inbox feels just as refreshing as spring cleaning, in the dead of winter.

4. Plan ahead. At NRPR Group, we’re always looking ahead for our clients, the media and more, but the holidays are a great time to wrap our heads around big ticket items for the new year. We recommend using this spare time to get your 2017 documents in order (monthly calendars, planning documents, deadlines, etc). That way, when it comes time to fill them in, half the work is already done! Bonus tip: Try making a “2017 Big Initiative To Do” list, too! Having a clear look at all pending action items from 2016 will help you feel confident that you’ll smash it right off the bat in 2017.

With all that said, we also can’t encourage you enough to relax and enjoy the hard-earned down time as the year comes to a close. It’s nice to have a bit of free time to help you get organized and prepared for the coming year, but a little R & R, family time, and catching up with old friends can go a long way in refreshing you for 2017. Enjoy your holidays, and come back fired up to start the new year off with a bang!
