What do I want to be when I grow up? I asked myself this time and time again. As early as my childhood, I didn’t know where life would take me – career wise. My friends would say they wanted to be a doctor or a lawyer but I didn’t know what I wanted to be. My grandmother worked as a child care provider and my mother was a nurse. I knew neither of those careers was a good fit for me. So, I did what my family said to do: “Go to college and you’ll figure it out.” I took all the required courses and majored in Mass Communications.
My junior year of college, I interned at Good Day Sacramento. My senior year, I was interning at KCRA – also in Sacramento. I learned so much about journalism and writing. I made friends. I developed great contacts. I learned about myself. After talking to a reporter about applying for a job in the entertainment industry, she said “You are sweet and have a great heart. We need more people like that in the entertainment industry.” She followed up with “Los Angeles would be a good place for you to go. You have nothing to lose. Go for it.”
I was inspired. So I went for it. I relocated to Los Angeles in early 2013. Upon my arrival, I volunteered at a red carpet event for an award show. I met a publicist and she was impressed with my good work ethics. She invited me to help with other events. I volunteered my time for over a year. She would often introduce me as a future publicist. I would get chills. I knew that I had finally found what I wanted to do. I made a decision; I would work for a great Public Relations Firm. Now, it’s happened and it’s been the best decision that I have ever made. I never felt so sure of anything until now. Being part of NRPR Group has been a dream so far. It wasn’t easy getting here but it was well worth the wait.
