Four Summer Beach Reads to Enhance Your Professional Life

It’s SUMMER! First off, can we get an AMEN?

To all who “Amen-ed” us, thank you.

Team NRPR is beyond excited to dive into these next few summer months. For one, that means we get to go to Disneyland! It’s our summer tradition at NRPR Group (but you can read more about that here). Besides a trip to the most magical place on earth, summer means so much to many people out there, especially working professionals. For one, summer vacations, and two (if you’re lucky like us and live close to the water) a lot of beach time.

While we can’t wait to kick our feet back and enjoy some well deserved rest and relaxation, you know Team NRPR is always looking for ways to keep our skills sharp, our minds on point, and ensure we’re “doing our homework” to deliver for our clients, our team, and ourselves. That’s why today on the blog, we’re diving into four awesome summer reads to make sure you pack in your beach bag. These books will help you level up on your professional game and keep you sharp all year long.

1. The Power of Habit: The Power of Habit, by Charles Duhigg, is a fantastic read for professionals in all industries and all walks of their career. It’s grounded in scientific reason, explaining the actual “whys” and “hows” behind habit formation and reformation. However, it also lends practical advice for breaking bad habits, initiating good ones, and tweaking your behavior to accomplish your goals.

2. Strengths Finder 2.0: Strengths Finder 2.0, by Tom Rath, is an awesome read that’s all about how to spend less time picking apart your flaws and shortcomings, and instead look at what you do well and focus on that. There’s an in-book assessment that helps you identify your strong suits, as well as examples of all the different ways your newly identified strengths can be put to work.

3. Getting Things Done: Getting Things Done, by David Allen, is all about productivity. This book is especially great for those just entering the workforce, as it details everything you need to know about time management, work life balance, and how to prioritize tasks. If you’re looking to become more efficient, this is the book for you!

4. Act Like a Leader, Think Like a Leader: Act Like a Leader, Think Like a Leader, by Herminia Ibarra, focuses on the early stages of one’s career, a time that’s ideal for developing your own definition of leadership and discovering how you can become that type of leader. This book is full of tips on everything from networking and growing your circle of professional contacts to getting creative and learning how to lead others in a productive way.

Of course there are the all time classics, such as The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, which we also recommend keeping in your beach bag for some inspirational summer reading. Just be ready with that sunscreen, because these reads will surely fire you up and inspire you to kick it into overdrive!
