Blessed with a Fiercely Awesome Boss

Boss's Day 10.17.18

Patricia Bays Haroski registered “National Boss’ Day” with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 1958. She was working as a secretary for State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, IL, at the time and chose October 16, her boss who is also her father’s birthday. Her goal was to show appreciation for her bosses and to improve relationships between managers and employees. Four years later in 1962, Illinois governor Otto Kerner officially proclaimed October 16 as Boss’s Day.

Boss’s Day is an observance not a holiday. Naysayers feel that it is not correct to oblige employees to recognize those for whom they work and it is more important to show dedication all year long. At NRPR, we have a boss who is cool and when I asked employees to share, they jumped to contribute why they think Nicole Rodrigues is fiercely awesome.

In 2014, Nicole exited Bender/Helper to found NRPR Group. Her vision was to create an agency whose clients, media and employees would be happy. She accomplishes this by creating relationships, building friendships, and fostering that special human touch for the benefit of clients AND media. When NRPR takes on a client, Nicole is personally involved with the account.

In 2017, Nicole launched NRPR Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility Program: Make It Happen, which she spun off into its own company, Young Dreamers. Young Dreamers is an ongoing program through which mentors speak with students about setting goals, building their personal brands, and persevering through life’s ups and downs. Nicole and the Young Dreamers team visit schools to talk about learning good habits in life early, before students join the workforce so that they are confident, well balanced and ready to reach their dreams.

Nicole is also the mother of a teenage daughter whom she is teaching to be self-confident and independent. Her daughter sees Nicole’s diligence and understands what she does and what it takes to succeed. Nicole has learned how to balance motherhood and career while fulfilling her life’s purpose

Nicole loves mentoring and coaching, which both offer her the ability to pay it forward for the help she received and to help to develop future Public Relations industry leaders. She teaches three keys to success: HOPE on days when self-doubt appears, GUIDANCE, when answers are needed, and OPPORTUNITY, to make mistakes and learn from them. She is also a strong believer in the power of networking and RELATIONShips. She is always teaching her staff that failures are a given and the key is to assess why they happen and prevent them from occurring again.

Nicole, the team shares its admiration for you and here is what some of them had to say:

Ashley
Thanks to Nicole for bring me on to the team and sharing her PR knowledge and experience. She’s fiercely awesome because she’s a girl boss!

Delia
Nicole is fiercely awesome because she actually cares about her employees being successful and does everything within her power to make sure they are. She is one of the only CEOs who will work directly one-on-one with their staff to mentor and coach them on growth. She inspires everyone around her.

Lynda
Nicole is fiercely awesome because she works to elevate employees rather than push them down. Her heart emoji and fire up messages exude enthusiasm, which turn into contagious inspiration. I admire her work with Young Dreamers and her vision of helping children to gain confidence needed to navigate life’s tribulations. Nicole exemplifies what leaders should be—those who help others to become leaders.

Shania
Nicole is fiercely awesome because she has so much experience and knowledge of the PR industry, which she shares.

Yasaman
Thank you Nicole for taking a chance on a new college graduate and for believing in my PR potential! I’ve been able to learn so much about the PR and marketing world through watching Nicole. Nicole is fiercely awesome because she’s determined and motivated and will do anything to make her dreams a reality!

Happy Boss’s Day, hope everyone has a great day at work whether or not a boss.
